6/1/26, Los Angeles, CA:
The Los Angeles Rams have officially acquired Myles Garrett, the reigning NFL 2026 Defensive Player of the Year, in a trade with the Cleveland Browns in exchange for edge rusher Jared Verse, a 2027 first-round pick, a 2028 second-round pick, and a 2029 third-round pick
The trade has been a long time coming, with Garrett consistently being the subject of trade and free agency rumors as the superstar’s career has largely been wasted in Cleveland, who has a 56-91-1 record in the nine seasons Garrett has been there. Despite Garrett being a 2x Defensive Player of the Year, 5x All Pro, 7x Pro Bowler, and breaking the NFL sack record last season, Cleveland has had more top-five picks in the draft (3) than playoff appearances (2) during Garrett’s tenure, corroborating the point of his career being wasted there.
In contrast, Garrett now joins a Rams team poised for a Super Bowl run with reigning MVP Matthew Stafford, who also traded for star cornerback Trent McDuffie earlier this offseason. Following a defeat to the eventual champion Seattle Seahawks in the NFC Conference Championship, who now look poised to repeat their 2022 Super Bowl Success although they may have to face a very tough Denver Broncos team.
Going the other way is former Defensive Rookie of the Year Jared Verse, who was picked by the Rams at 19th overall in 2024 and has 12 sacks in his career along with a handful of draft picks consisting of a first, a second, and a third. Local Jets fan Zach Iqbal says that he thinks the Browns won the trade, but only time will tell if he’s right.
